Biography
-
H.B. Huisinga grew up with her older sister on the
family farm just outside of Clinton, Illinois. After
graduating a year early from high school, she entered the first of
two local community colleges to study Electrical Engineering.
Her collegiate studies focused on math, chemistry and physics while
her personal interests found her exploring ancient Egyptian culture,
vampyre lore, creative writing, impressionistic art, choir and
crocheting.
Ms. Huisinga left college after three years to pursue a career
in the field of her studies in order to make ends meet. After three
years at a local engineering design firm, she moved to Wisconsin where she
joined forces with an architectural design firm.
She now makes her living as a Medical Transcriptionist in Northern Illinois.
From an early age, she developed her creative writing skills
with her sometimes unconventional approaches to English assignments.
She was given a Young Authors Award from her junior high school
English teachers who encouraged her creative writing abilities further by submitting an early poem of Ms. Huisinga's entitled "It's Christmas Dinner"
to the local newspaper.
"It's Christmas Dinner" was subsequently published in the Decatur Herald & Review.
Since then, Ms. Huisinga has written short fictional stories and poetry
inspired by her triumph in being a successful survivor of child sexual abuse.
-
Ms. Huisinga currently resides in
Illinois and is a member of the
Wisconsin Regional Writer's Association and Chicago Writers
Association. She holds two certifications
from CSI (Construction Specifications Institute--the original
CSI); Certified Construction Contract Administrator and
Construction Document Technologist. She
is also a LEED Accredited Professional with the United States Green
Building Council.
-
Ms. Huisinga spends her free time
further developing her
personal interests, advocating for local Domestic Abuse
Intervention Services. Ms. Huisinga also teaches crochet and knitting classes
to local crafters.
-
Deracination is Ms. Huisinga's first foray
into the realm of writing novels.
