Ella is a novel about the courage and strength that comes from being a survivor of sexual assault.

  • Early excerpt:

No!  It’s locked.  Don’t be silly.  You’d have to have the key...

The doorknob moved again.  This time Ella was positive it had moved.

"I’m coming for you, Ella."  Connor’s voice wafted through the crack between the door and its frame.

A soft pop! drew Ella’s eyes back to the doorknob.  She saw the push button pop out of the doorknob signaling it was unlocked.  She flew to the door and jammed her thumb against the button, but it was too late.  She could feel Connor’s weight against the door, pushing her socked feet back across the carpeted floor.

Why is this happening to us!?

Ella let go her grasp on the door.  She stumbled backwards until she lost her footing and plopped onto the carpeting.  Connor’s weight on the door caused the door to fly back against the toilet seat with a loud thwunk!  He righted himself and stood in the doorway grinning.  Beads of sweat were strewn across his forehead.  He stepped into the bathroom and closed the door.  With a motion Ella heard rather than saw, he popped the button back into the doorknob, locking both of them into the bathroom.
